Making Tax Digital is here - are you ready

Making Tax Digital for Income Tax (MTD for ITSA) is changing the way self-employed individuals and landlords report their income to HMRC. Instead of one annual Self Assessment return, you’ll be required to submit digital updates to HMRC every quarter – and the rollout has already begun.

If you earn over £50,000 from self-employment or property, you’re affected from April 2026. The threshold drops to £30,000 in April 2027, and to £20,000 in April 2028.
